AI-Powered: In conversation with InOrbit CTO Ramiro Diaz Trepat

By Team InOrbit

InOrbit's launch of new AI features over the past year has been a game-changer for robot deployments. RobOps Copilot, powered by large language models (LLMs), brings unprecedented AI capabilities to robot operations. This innovative tool democratizes actionable insights, allowing users of all technical backgrounds to easily explore robot and multi-system data. By simply using natural language, users can obtain detailed explanations, refine data analysis, and quickly identify crucial optimization opportunities.

This achievement is a testament to the vision of InOrbit CTO Ramiro Diaz Trepat. Ramiro joined InOrbit in January 2024 as Head of AI, where he quickly established a robust AI department and led the product team in developing groundbreaking technologies. His appointment as CTO reflects InOrbit's commitment to AI-driven innovation and his leadership in elevating the InOrbit platform to new heights. Today, we're delighted to delve into a conversation with Ramiro about Artificial Intelligence, his unique perspective on smarter RobOps, and his vision for the future of InOrbit.

InOrbit has always been at the forefront of AI in robotics. Can you talk a bit about our unique approach to AI at InOrbit?

InOrbit is uniquely positioned at the intersection of AI, robotics, and operations, and my vision is to build on that foundation to lead the next wave of RobOps transformation. Our platform is already a critical enabler for companies deploying robots at scale, but the next phase is about accelerating that value by leveraging AI more effectively and expanding the breadth of our ecosystem. This means deeper integrations, more real-time insights, and enhancing our optimization and predictive capabilities. We’re not just focused on managing robots; we’re about orchestrating complex, dynamic environments where robots, IoT devices, and people collaborate seamlessly. I’m steering the company to double down on innovation that enables businesses to scale operations confidently and efficiently.

How do you see the role of AI evolving within robotics, and how does InOrbit plan to stay ahead of the curve?

As the adoption of robotics grows, the need for effective AI-powered RobOps becomes even more pronounced. What we’re seeing now is a shift from simply deploying robots to managing large, complex fleets that need to work harmoniously within dynamic environments. The value of AI in robotics will continue to evolve towards providing more autonomy, intelligence, and scalability. As the market matures, companies will demand not only uptime but optimization—robots need to do more with less, be aware of their surroundings, and adapt to real-time changes. InOrbit is evolving to meet these needs by offering more predictive analytics, fine-grained operational control, and even more robust safety features to ensure everything runs smoothly, even at scale.

You've spoken about the importance of ‘Physical’ or ‘Embodied AI’. Can you elaborate on how this concept is shaping InOrbit's product roadmap?

Embodied AI is where the “intelligence” of AI meets the physical world through robotics, and it’s set to revolutionize industries across the board. InOrbit is at the forefront of this convergence, especially in the orchestration space. We give companies the tools to manage fleets which execute complex business tasks, but more importantly, we’re making it possible for robots to operate intelligently in real-time. Our platform leverages AI to optimize mission planning, traffic management, and incident resolution, allowing robots to execute better in dynamic environments, which will be key in shaping the future of AI and robotics.

How do you balance the drive for innovation with the need to deliver practical, scalable solutions?

Innovation and practicality aren’t mutually exclusive—they actually need to go hand-in-hand for real impact. At InOrbit, we innovate with purpose. It’s not just about creating something cutting-edge; it’s about ensuring that what we create can scale and provide measurable value to our customers. Our innovation is rooted in solving real-world problems, and every new feature or tool we develop is designed with scalability in mind. We constantly collaborate with customers to understand their pain points, which helps us stay grounded in practical needs while pushing the envelope in terms of what’s possible.

How does your AI background inform your leadership at InOrbit?

I have a deep understanding of the potential for AI to unlock new capabilities in robotics and operations. I’ve seen firsthand how the combination of data, algorithms, and real-time processing can transform business outcomes. My focus is on leveraging AI to not only automate but also optimize complex, multi-robot systems. Moving us beyond reactive operations to predictive and proactive approaches, which is critical for scaling robotic deployments.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about the future of robotics and AI at InOrbit?

While I can’t reveal too much, I can say that we’re working on several exciting fronts. We’re looking at more advanced AI-driven features that make it possible to optimize the work of robot fleets, making them smarter and more adaptive. We’re also exploring deeper partnerships with hardware manufacturers and AI innovators to expand our capabilities. Expect to see more integrations that bring together various types of robots and IoT devices under one unified system, giving our customers unprecedented visibility and control. That means enabling smoother interoperability across different systems. A game-changer for those looking to scale their robotic operations.
